Clifford Rae Mehring was born November 26, 1953, in Butte, Montana. He was the third of five children born to Charles R. Mehring and Alberta J. McCoy. A diagnosis of metastatic lung cancer made his last days difficult, but he died peacefully at home just 44 days after his diagnosis.

Clifford was born with Down's Syndrome on Thanksgiving day, a significance not lost on his family who treasured him for his generous soul and warm sense of humor that he brought to our entire family as well as the many other lives he touched throughout his life. Cliff came with a stubborn ambience for things important to him such as daily trips to Starbucks, listening to Glen Campbell music, camping, fishing, walking the family's two little dogs, or watching his favorite super hero TV programs.

Clifford lived with his parents throughout his life yet was independent and responsible. He worked several years at Yard Birds in Olympia until the business closed and, while employed there, was proud to be named employee of the year. One of Cliff's great delights was being called "Uncle Cliff" by his numerous nieces and nephews. He brought a sense of dogged determination to everything he did. After his Dad passed in 2015, he was particularly devoted to helping his Mom around the house and to fill his father's void as handyman.

Clifford was predeceased by his father, Charles Mehring, his grandparents Andrew & Helen Johnson and Walter & Frances McCoy. He is survived by his mother, Alberta Mehring, brother Robert (Debra) of Raymond, WA; sisters, Diana Casler(Dan) Olympia, WA and Susan Mehring-Miller of Columbia, SC; and brother Michael (Patsy) of Redmond, WA. He is also survived by nieces & nephews who treasured and survived fishing and camping trips with him over the years, Melissa Mehring, Andrew Mehring, Kelsey Bogar, Casey Sobol, Chad Sobol, Matthew McKibbin, Jawnie Holsker & Brittany Miller and their families.

The family is thankful for the love & support of both Clergy & members of St. John's Episcopal Church and the beautiful handmade prayer shawl that kept Cliff wrapped in love during his illness. Thanks also for all the loving cards from family and friends that warmed his heart and made him smile. A special thanks to Dr. Jennifer Playstead and Providence South Sound Hospice Care for their caring and expertise during this difficult time.

A family memorial service to celebrate Cliff's life will be held in early June at St. John's Episcopal Church.

Arrangements under the direction of Mills & Mills Funeral Home and Memorial Park, Tumwater, WA.
