Susanne Elsie (Sue) Caraker

She was born September 8, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan, the youngest child of Dorothy and Harrison Hughes. The family moved several times, mostly within New York State and Michigan, finally settling in Detroit. She graduated from Thomas M. Cooley High School in Detroit, after which, she attended secretarial school.

She met her future husband, Robert Richard (Dick) Caraker shortly after World War II. They were married on October 18, 1947. Sue and Dick moved many times, living in seven states over almost 65 years of marriage. Sue worked as a secretary in many fields. After her children were in school, she mostly worked in church offices, the last one being All Saints' Episcopal Church in Omaha, Nebraska. They retired to Mesa, Arizona, where they were both avid square dancers. They were active members of Living Faith Anglican Church for many years.

She moved to Olympia in 2012, following the passing of her husband, to be near her daughter and son-in-law. She went to be with the Lord on March 27, 2015.

She is survived by her son, Gary, and daughter Kathryn and her husband Thomas Brignole, and her brother, Edward G Hughes and his wife of Caledonia, Michigan, and four nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life will be held at New Hope Anglican Church (6326 Martin Way in Lacey) on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at 7:00 PM. She will be interred in Phoenix alongside her husband at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.
